1966 MG 1100 |
Whilst testing a new regional search for MGs that has recently been added to MG AuctionWatch, this MG 1100 project car for sale in my hometown caught my eye.
Around three million Issigonis-designed ADO16 variants rolled off the production line at BMC, making it Britain's best selling car for years on end. The bulk carried Austin or Morris badges, but nearly 160,000 bore the exclusive MG badge and styling - of those, around 125,000 MG 1100s.
Yet even with these numbers, the ADO16 MGs sadly don't share the same kind of broad appeal as their A-series cousins the Midget or the Mini (although they do have a small and devoted following), which is a shame for what I feel are such beautiful cars.
This Bristolian MG 1100 doesn't run, but is described as being in "good condition for its age" and a "great project" for an enthusiast. If it's really as "rust free" as the seller says, it sounds like a good candidate for restoration, especially considering the cheapness and plentiful supply of ADO16 parts. Let's hope someone takes it on and puts it back on the road where it belongs.
