Although the last MGB rolled off the production line at Abingdon almost thirty years ago, there is still a thriving market for MGB parts, in the form of newly machined aftermarket parts or reconditioned units offered by specialist companies, and secondhand/NOS MGB parts in circulation.
The auction website eBay is one of the best sources for both old and new MGB parts. Aside from the contents of the back of people's garages frequently turning up offering the odd MGB bargain (but more often than not just a pile of junk), many respectable traders offer new or reconditioned MGB parts via their own virtual eBay store.
As a result of this mix there are at any one time several thousand MGB parts on offer on eBay worldwide. This huge selection makes it perhaps the ultimate MGB autojumble – but as those who have spent hours sifting through seemingly bottomless parts bins at shows know, such a volume can make locating the things you want a time-consuming process. Recent improvements in the eBay search interface focusing on the categorising of parts by type and condition have helped, but it can often still be either pot-luck or hard graft to thank for finding that gem of a part.
To assist with the search, MG AuctionWatch has recently embarked on a project to combine interactive images from the original MGB factory manual with finely-tuned search queries resulting in a wholly pictorial way to search for MGB parts. We're working hard to bring you this exciting new functionality, so stay tuned for developments!
